Spot price vs. what you get paid, honestly.
What “spot” actually is
The spot price is what one troy ounce of pure metal trades for on global commodity markets right now. It's the headline number you see quoted everywhere — and it's the starting point for every offer, not the offer itself.
Why no buyer pays 100% of spot
Your jewelry isn't pure metal — 14K gold is 58.3% gold — and turning it back into pure metal costs money: refining, assay, transport, and the buyer's margin for carrying market risk between buying from you and settling with the refiner. Anyone advertising “full spot price” for scrap jewelry is making it up somewhere else.
What determines your rate
Purity (higher karat = closer to spot), weight (larger lots refine more efficiently, so they earn a better rate), form (recognized bullion trades much closer to spot than scrap), and the market's mood that day. The estimator below shows the honest range; the exact number comes from testing your actual items in person.

Not sure of the weight? A nickel weighs 5 grams — hold your piece against one and guess. Close is good enough for a range.
Estimated cash payout

Estimate only, based on indicative market prices. Your exact offer depends on testing, weight, and the market at time of sale — final offers are made in person and there’s never an obligation to sell.
